165 SOLD Naga Loin Cloth with Cowrie Shells

Sold to a discerning Antique Art-Lover

***

This particular type of loin cloth is worn by very few Naga tribes.

Cowrie shells - considered a symbol of wealth- have been fixed onto a thick canvas-like cloth. (maybe jute)

The cloth has been tightly hand woven and it is likely that the yarn was also handspun.

The maker paid great attention to the selection of cowries as all are of the same size. Further, the these have been meticulously laid on the cloth and the precision of the the rows is ofí«í_ a level that one might only expect from a machine and not from handmade pieces!

72 cm x 19 cm

A few cowries missing.

Usage related wear evident.
