My world seemed mighty impressed with the concept of ‘blue jeans’ when they came along in the 1970s.
Everyone had to have a pair.
But before that, much much before that, thick & hardy indigo cloth was already in fashion elsewhere…. in the hill tribes of the golden triangle.
And this was not just plain blue indigo! It was beautifully accented with reds or with beads woven in!
This style remained within the confines of tribal weaving and did not reach the lands I lived in!
And so I had to make do with a pair of Levi’s that I wore until they actually wore out and then patched up and then wore some more.
These antique and vintage hill tribe textiles (see them all here on woven souls.com) would certainly have been my first choice …. but but but…
