E145 SOLD Rare Woman's Loin Cloth - Bonda Tribe Odisha

Sold to a discerning Antique Art-Lover

***

STunning little collectible textile!!! Collectible.

From the Bonda tribe of orissa. This short strip of cloth is called the 'Nadi or Ringa' and is the only fabric worn. The rest of their body is covered with beads.

Such pieces are made for self consumption and rarely ever sold. This may be the only piece that might ever be offered on the net. This one was acquired from a tribal fair 3 years ago straight off the loom.

With India's economy on the upswing and opportunities soaring, these tribes are coming into the fold of development and chances are that their traditional ways of life will be left behind for an economically brighter future.

Such pieces may easily be among the last ...
