848 Old Bishnoi Skirt with Figurative Embroidery SOLD

Sold to a discerning Antique Art-Lover

***

Old Skirt of the Bishnoi community.

Handwoven coarse base cloth

Hand stitched

Hand done embroidery with figures and a diverse range of motifs that have the same character but are all unique.

Estimated to be from the 1960s

May have some usage related signs of wear

There is also one area of about 2-3 inches that has repairs. Two mirrors are missing.

Measurements:

Length of the skirt: 88cm

Skirt Circumference at the bottom: 352cm

Max Waist Currently: 76cm - This can be extended to 84cm because of the slit. Further, the design is such that the slit itself can be opened up to provide for a larger waist. This flexibility is inherent in most costume designs in frugal tribal communities.

From the feel of the fabric, it does not seem to have been used very much - the main cloth is still a bit stiff.

Rare.
