Buddhist Manuscript consisting of a set of ten wooden sutra folios and two painted wooden covers.
The mantras have been etched or carved into the wood.
The wooden base of the folios has uneven colors and a few marks of wear and tear.
The script is under study and has not been identified yet. It has been suggested that the script could be Zhang Zhung - the old Bon language that was used in Tibet in the ancient times - but this suggestion has yet to be studied and confirmed.
There is some white substrate in some etched letters in a few folios. There is mild edge wear on a few.
The two painted covers have a red base and a floral motif painted over that. One of covers has suffered heat burns probably from a lamp.
Each of the sutra folios is about 15.5 inches long and 4 inches wide and the covers are slightly larger.
Estimated to be from the 1800s or earlier.
[the cloth tie seen in the photos is no longer available]
