Early 1900s
Note the remarkable variety of zigzag patterns that have been used - some are narrow while others are broad, some are shorter than others. Some have twin-peaks others have single peaks, some have filled in diamonds others are simple line drawings.
Very complex weaving!
The selvedge created using undyed cotton sets off the gorgeous maroon guard borders beautifully!
The lovely colors of the supplementary wefts in the bands at the ends, complement the maroon and slate grey field.
Such Batak textiles are no longer being made and antique pieces such as these hardly ever come up for sale.
Minor signs of wear and a few repairs.
