826 Antique Phulkari Bagh with superb Nazar Butti

This piece is a dense phulkari but does not qualify to be called a bagh as the base cloth is still seen despite the extensive embroidery.

Further, the chope stitch has also been creatively employed for the flower stalks!

But the Nazar butti - an anomalous motif - that is a device put in to deflect / absorb the evil eye is the most remarkable feature of this phulkari!

Estimated to be from the early 1900s

Punjab, Undivided India
