2014 Antique Hand Painted Kalamkari Fragment - Ceylon / India Trade Textile
Antique Kalamkari Cloth Fragment
A kalamkari cloth garment in fresh yet saturated colors made on a fine cloth for the Ceylon market
Painted and drawn. Some motifs appear to be stamped.
The natural dyes are still vivid and striking, Fantastic Blue.
Has holes that are very visible as the textile was placed on a white cloth during photography. When placed against a maroon backing these will not be visible.
This fragment is a part of the cloth used as a man's garment like a Dhoti.
Size: 25 x 112 cm
The panel is a part of a larger cloth (286 cm x 112 cm) that has a border on one side but has a field that has stains, spots and color run on most part of the white field.
Estimated to be from the late 1800s
