2008 Antique Printed Textile Betel Nut Bag from Sri Lanka

$350.00

A  printed betel nut bag with deep red dye (probably natural dye)

A long cloth white bag with a floral & vine print.

Coarse thick cloth.

This was displayed in an antique store along with two others. This one caught ,my attention for two reasons: a) the shape resembled the bag seen in "The Herb Picker" an antique textile in the Karun Thakar collection. b) the amazing color

The locals say that such bags were used for betel nuts ..but bags could be used for anything.

Collected on a field visit to a remote village in Sri Lanka.

Hand stitched and sparingly used.

Age unknown but may be from the early 1900s

59 cm x 21 cm

23.2 x 8.3 inches

RARE

Frame it and add it to your home-museum collection.
