How many people have others praying for them?
Am certain that I have fewer today than I had 50 years ago.
And so as these blessings become rarer, I value them more.
Last week, at a dinner, I proposed that as a measure of success of our lives, in addition to the “Financial Net Worth” metric we should also have the “Thoughts Net Worth” metric.
How many people are thinking (positive thoughts) about you today? This would need to be weighted with the degrees of separation from your real life – the greater the distance, the greater the weight. So if a person separated from me unknown to me, not my friend or ‘friends of friends’ separated by kilometers or even decades thinks of me this year that is more significant than my own employee thinking of me.
What good would this metric be?
It would be a measure of our good deeds.
However, the flaw lies in the fact that this Thoughts Net Worth cannot be measured … and is therefore a useless concept :).

So instead here I present actual little boxes used by various communities in which blessings and prayers have been captured and worn by the receiver.
The first has a compartment created by folding the silver over – and probably contains some sealed prayer.
This one – also a sealed compartment from has an inscription!
These may not actually solve any problems of keep the problems away but they surely would act as a reminder of the love and offer the comfort of a secure loving community and the psychological strength offered by that would go a long way in dealing with life.
What lovely objects that hold stories within!
