Long Rabari Toran banner for door

Unusual number of mirrors - this type is seen in older works

Superbly Embroidered Toran decorative artwork hung above the main door as a form of welcome in traditional Gujarati homes

Embroidery on cotton base.

Superbly executed extremely dense embroidery that at first-glance could be mistaken for applique or rope-work

Such fine work is no longer made.

Artworks of this quality were usually given as dowry.

The uber-shiny lapels quite likely made of synthetic silk & zari were the style of the day and as these glittery materials were expensive they were preferred for special occasions such as weddings all over rural India.
