RARE Old Cotton Wedding Odhana Shawl from the Thar desert region of Rajasthan

Handspun cotton, handwoven, hand dyed and hand embroidered with mirrors.

Gorgeous blue embroiery - the blue is very rare! These stitches are also seen in marash embroidery and may be evidence of an ethnographic migration.

Usually the mirrorwork & embroidery is on the four corners of the shawl. A broad central rectangular panel is rare.

Note the Hind auspicious symbols of Swastika depicted alongside peacocks

Age unknown but estimated to be 50-60 years old

220 x 131 cm

Some thread loss in the embroidery, missing mirrors and edge wear.

*In the last image the textile is shown as a wall-hanging for illustrative purpose only using a cropped image. Therefore the size is not proportional to the real shawl - which is longer and not squarish as seen here.
