Rich traditional silk with superfine weaving in beautiful blue.
It may be worn as a shawl or used as a wall hanging
Complex motifs beautifully interwoven to create a dense pattern all over the textile.
The number of colors used in the composition directly impact the complexity of the mechanics of weaving it - the more colors used the longer it takes to weave it.
Six colors of supplementary silk thread counted - light grey, dark grey, white, yellow, ochre, maroon.
This is the finest weave from Laos that has been seen by me.
Will be perfect as a wall hanging but was originally meant to be worn as a garment
The only portion of this piece that is not embellished with supplementary weft threads is 23" of black silk in the center, leaving nearly 100" of supplementary weft weaving.
Estimated to be from the 1960s - 1970s
Textile artworks of such density, complexity of motifs and variety of colors are not to be found any longer.
