798 Antique Kilim Gaziantep

Anatolian Village Kilim from Aintab (present day Gaziantep), South East Anatolia,

1850s-1890s

170x310cm

Symbols of fertility, symbols of protection and male-female synergy including the Elibelinde all feature in this fantastic village Kilim fragment

The borders, the minor field elements, the colors and the overall arrangement make this a superb piece. [IMO]

Wool with cotton highlights [most probably]

The randomness seen in this artwork is rarely seen in commercial pieces.

Scores very high on the 'Soul' element.

It is in a 'lived heartily & weary' condition and needs be provided with TLC (tender loving care).

Fortunate that both halves were available!

This is to be viewed as a work of textile art rather than as a floor covering!

Interior decor specialists could redesign this as artful upholstery covers
