Antique Swat Valley Shawl Textile in a never-seen-before green base.
The base cloth is Khadi handloomed.
Most of the embroidery has been done in silk floss but I suspect the blue is silk yarn and not floss.
Size is 126 x 216 cm.
The condition is good in general but there is some minor thread loss.
Swat Valley heirloom shawls coming out of the place of origin are quite rare and every year I am offered fewer and fewer pieces. Unusual ones such this one rendered on a green base are probably once-in-a-lifetime creations that has fortunately trickled out into the world of collectors.
This item has spent a lifetime being used for the purpose of its creation with the original artist/user. Signs of this life lived heartily may be present on the piece in the form of stains, thread loss, loose threads, holes, tears, color run and other imperfections. Therefore the condition must be assumed to be “not” perfect. More photos of such imperfections will be provided on request.
