156 SOLD Old Banjara Embroidered Tribal Textile Ghodiyu

Sold to a discerning Antique Art-Lover

***

Used as a hammock for babies & toddlers, this Banjara gypsy tribal piece has been decorated with applique work and cowrie shells.

Superb natural colors

Completely hand embroidered and hand stitched. Hand woven base cloth. Hand spun yarn. Even some of the applique patches have used handspun yarn handwoven cloth (It was fashionable in the mid 1900s to add a touch of the new "modern" synthetic fabric).

Beautiful combination of colors!

Sometimes God can be found in the details ... very true in this case - so several photos of the details have been uploaded.

LITERATURE REFERENCE : A similar Banjara cradle cloth hammock may be seen on pages 207 in 'Indian Textiles' by John Gillow & Nicholas Bernard.

83cm x 74 cm

Circa 1930-1940s

Will look stunning as a piece of art on the walls!
