Embroidered and excessively embellished with unusual irregular shaped mirrorwork, the motifs on this bag are signatures of identity of the Rjput gypsy tribe of white desrt Kutch region of Gujarat.
This type of bag is used to pack gifts and treasures that the bride takes to her new home.
The smaller ones such as this one are meant for jewellery while larger ones are meant for carrying clothing.
In this area, the term "Rjput" is used for descendant clans of the King and the many wives while the term "Raaj putr" is used for the descendants of the primary queen (local folk terminology).
