A silk Songket from Bali with figurative motifs woven in silk.
The main vertical panel in the front has 3 rather scary human-like faces - with monstrous teeth - possibly protection devices for the wearer. Each face has been rendered uniquely.
Also seen are bird pairs along the edge panels.
Finally there are motifs that appear to be fish - a rare and unique element.
The purpose of this textile is not known.
Condition is 2/5 - there are several small holes and weak spots in the silk.
But on uniqueness this artwork scores 5/5
Estimated to be from the late 1800s
