This painting of the inner sanctum of the temple of Lord Jagannath of Puri, has been made on cloth using natural colors.
The cotton cloth is treated before painting with glue and after painting with lacquer to protect the paint. The old methods of painting have now been discontinued.
Hindus have four important pilgrimage spots -known as 'Chaar Dhaam' that a devout Hindu ought to visit during his lifetime. The Jagannath temple of Puri is one of them.In the odlen days, such paintings were the 'souvenirs' that devotees took back with them.
