Ramayan is the Hindu epic that provides the moral compass for life as it depicts the battle between good and evil.
This scene depicts Hanuman, the Monkey King who is a ardent devotee of Lord Ram. When Lord Ram's wife, Sita is captured by Lord Ravana and taken to Lanka, Hanuman assists by going to Lanka, finding her and setting Lanka on fire.
In this Batik artwork, Hanuman is shown setting Lanka on fire using his tail as a torch.
The depiction of the clouds (mega mendung) is typical of the batiks of Cirebon in Java, Indonesia.
