216 Semi-Antique Lao TAI Dragon Weaving Fragment

Superb Laotian Weaving with dragon motifs

Motifs of Dragons? or Dragon & Phoenix?

In the cultural context textiles and motifs are not merely aesthetic designs but containers of aura and ethos and used in ceremonies to reflect the sentiment.

The fluorescent green was new (in that era) and popular but expensive - hence used sparingly.

Estimated to be from the 1950s-1960s

The textile is dull (as in the last picture).

Threads are fairly frayed and weary. But the dragon motifs can be salvaged and framed.

A good example of a unique style!

Rare.

113 x 42 cm.
