Superbly executed extremely dense embroidery that at first-glance could be mistaken for applique or rope-work

The blue offers a lovely contrast to the yellows and pinks.

Such fine work is no longer made.

Artworks of this quality were usually given as dowry. 

The uber-shiny lapels were the style of the day and as these glittery materials were expensive they were preferred for special occasions such as weddings all over rural India.
