Rare Old Heirloom Himalayan Silver Ornament - Koma / Kooma from Sikkim / Bhutan

Worn as pectorals over the coat by the women of Sikkim & Bhutan.

Such ornaments were popular and worn by all during the early to mid1900s

Worn somewhat like brooches below the shoulders, one on each side, the two are linked by a chain than runs around the back of the neck or with the chain forming an additional decorative feature at the front.

Auspicious Buddhist symbols seen on the front and Turquoise stone in the centre.

On the reverse of each koma is soldered a metal bar tapered to points which bend inwards to form a fastening device.

Also attached on the reverse of each koma is a small ring for the addition of the chain or japtha.

Made in silver gilted with 10K gold.

Age unknown but estimated to be 50-60 years old

Acquired from Sikkim.
