2043 Antique Cambodian Khmer Ikat Silk Sampot w Human Figures
This lovely Cambodian silk weft-Ikat Sampot has a green field with flowers.
The remarkable feature is the border with a row of human figures holding hands, with every alternate figure facing the opposite direction.
Estimated to be from the very early-mid 1900s.
Condition is good.
Considering the difficulties faced by the country, it is amazing that such pieces have survived at all.
The glossy sheen is a result of the weaving technique used in Cambodia and makes it difficult to photograph. Therefore photos from various angles and lighting have been provided.
