Rare Antique Wedding Shawl from Nuristan or Swat Valley

Hand spun cotton, handwoven and hand embroidered

Exquisite delicate flower motifs all over the field rendered in a style typical of Nuristan textile art

Superbly done pallu end-panels and selvedge borders done in a style typical of Swat Valley

3 narrow panels (narrow because the looms were narrow) embroidered and then handstitched to form the larger shawl.

The white portion has yellowed with age. Some signs of usage including minor stains and distress spots.

Signs of this life lived heartily may be present on the piece in the form of stains, thread loss, loose threads, holes, tears, color run and other imperfections.
