Maybe because of the nature of the usage within the household, such pieces do not often reach the collector's market and so very few are available.
A few that I have seen are refurbished larger textiles that are being used as bread covers.
But this extraordinary piece has embroidered borders on all 4 sides which means that this is the format that it has been originally created as.
The finesse of the Swatti embroidery is unparalleled (except maybe in 916 - which comes close) and it is hard to imagine the size of the needle used for this work!
An outstanding example of textile art!
Estimated to be from the early 1900s
83 cm x 83 cm
