1719 Antique Bergama Turkish Rug Memling Guls?

Lovely little rug with superb colors and motifs.

Am not familiar with this group - decribed as an "Antique Bergama Turkish rug with Memling Guls - Turkey - ca. 1870" by the previous seller.

3 ft. 8 in. x 3 ft. 3 in.

I acquired it for its looks ...

I think it is a special rug so it is still under study....

The image of the rug in a frame is illustrative and not to size - the rug is not framed.

Comments by others I reached out to:

"It is a beautiful rug and I believe it is from North West Anatolia from somewhere between Bergama and Canakkale (more close to Canakkale region).I think it is a wonderful Kozak from near Canakkale.Possibly a Holbein rug!"

"if you draw a white line around the pattern you get an octagon (gül). I don't know a name for it. The pattern consists of four rams' horns. Ram's horns symbolize fertility, heroism, strength or courage, and virility."
