This embroidered robe, worn by a Yao priest, contains images which reflect Dao beliefs and qualities which reside in the shaman himself.
The front of this robe is decorated with dragons, auspicious beasts. At the bottom are two facing horses, symbols of strength and endurance.
The reverse features a dragon above two phoenix which are also auspicious animals. They fly above sacred mountains in Daoist belief. Mid 20th Century.
24 x 36 inches.
