808 Antique Darshan Dwar Phulkari Bagh Textile - Wedding Scene

Rare  Darshan Dwar Phulkari.

Also showcases scenes from life in the place of origin.

We see human figures with raised hands that may be interpreted as goodbyes between the bride and her maternal family at the time of her Muklawa after the wedding.

When the bride finally leaves her home to move to her husband's, the farewell ceremony is a tearful one for the parents and the bride. In many Bollywood film from the 60's this important ceremony is elaborately depicted. Poems and songs have been written about this important event. And now, we see this depicted in this gorgeous Darshan Dwar Phulkari.

Note the Bride (on the right) accompanied by her father and her mother waving from a distance (women stayed indoors and did not usually leave  home) while the groom with his finery has been placed in the adjacent section. The arched pink & yellow cover above the bride's head is most likely her wedding phulkari veil.
We also see noserings & a variety of farm animals strewn about in the field between the dwar motifs.
Condition is generally good and no stark imperfections are noticeable. However, given the age of the textile artwork, some deficiencies must be expected in the form of thread loss, stains, repairs etc.

Estimated to be from the 1940s-50s

Punjab, Undivided India.

140 x 220 cm
