627 ANtique Textile Art Swat Valley Wedding Shawl

Antique Swat Valley Textile with a motif that is undeniably related to the Elibelinde motif

Amazing example that speaks of migration of cultural memes

Edge embroidery

Old handwoven cotton

Panels hand stitched together.

Used as wedding shawls and worn on ceremonial occasions within the women's quarters.

Motifs rendered in silk floss.

Extraordinary stylisation of motifs.

Stained and discolored. This has been factored into the price of this otherwise superb piece.

Swat Valley textiles are rare and every piece is a delight to study!

The motifs in this one are older designs not seen in later pieces from the 1900s

Estimated to be from the late 1800s if not earlier. It is the oldest Swat Valley piece I have seen.
