1246 SOLD - RARE Vintage Karen Hilltribe Priest's Ceremonial Shoulder Cloth with Iridescent Beetle Wings

An amazing hand woven ceremonial textile from the Pwo Karen Hilltribe. of the Golden Triangle.

Worn by the Priest as a shoulder cloth when officiating and singing chants at family ceremonies.

Note the fringes added throughout the piece as embellishment. Also note the plastic buttons - white, pink and blue that have been used to create a pattern.

Decorated with stunning iridescent beetlewings - very rare form of textile embellishment. Wings of beetles found in the forests of Northern Thailand that have short life spans were used in this art.

MEASUREMENT : 67cm x 192 cm (not including the fringe)

LITERATURE REFERENCE : An almost identical example is seen on Page 81 in the excellent textile & cultures book titled "Peoples of the Golden Triangle' by Paul & Elaine Lewis.

Estimated to be from the early-mid 1900s
