One more fantastic example of folk art Asia
Such pieces are neither made nor available now.
As China prospers and lifestyles change, the old ways have been given up and the biggest casualty is the folk art of China
These ear muffs have been created out of soft silk with a little sleeve to slip it on to the infant's ear.
Simple but perfect embroidery decorates each piece.
The side facing the skin has an additional layer of spongy cloth or cotton - to make it comfortable for the baby.
Hand embroidered and hand stitched. Looks unused or put away carefully after the infant grew up.
The two pieces are attached by a stitch or two - probably so that they don't lose each other.
Estimated to be early 1900s
Condition is as can be seen in the photos - a small hole seen on one.
