474 SOLD - Antique Animal Headdress 4 - E117

Sold to a discerning Antique Art-Lover

***

Another wonderful example of rural folk art from India.

Such pieces are just not available now. As India prospers and lifestyles change, the old ways have been given up and the biggest casualty is the folk art of rural India.

This animal headdress is probably from the Banjaras and was probably used on a bullock.

Cotton base cloth and large mirrors. All natural dyes.

Early 1900s or late 1800s

Condition is as can be seen in the photos. Losses on mirrors, cowrie shells, stitches and fabric. Missing mirrors / cowries. Item is not in perfect condition.

Completely handmade and hand stitched.

22cm x 22cm (not including the shell embellishments)

This is a rare textile format.

Frameable and will work well as a work of wall artwork.

This item has spent a lifetime being used for the purpose of its creation with the original artist/user. Signs of this life lived heartily may be present on the piece in the form of stains, thread loss, loose threads, holes, tears, color run and other imperfections. Therefore the condition must be assumed to be “not” perfect. More photos of such imperfections will be provided on request.
