Amazing Sar Pallu that has many unique features

The central panel is filled with motifs that are the kind seen in Sainchis and never in Sar Pallus.

But, two of the motifs - the girls churning butter and the Ganesh Sthapna in the centre - are not characteristics seen in Punjab textile art.

There are several theories regarding the presence of the central band. It could be a migration/inter-marriage related introduction of motifs from a different culture or it could be that a trader intermediary (usually from Gujarat) or his wife is responsible for this. Or it could be something we have not imagined yet...

What is important ultimately is that it is beautiful.

Note the checkerboard pallus and the unevenness in the sizes of the triangles and diamonds that give it immense character! If they were all equal, the art would have been a little less attractive!

The impact of the gold & magenta against the deep blue base is amazing!

Absolutely gorgeous textile art.

However it has significant thread loss in several spots.

This piece is a collector's dream!
