Rare Sainchi Phulkari Embroidery Textile from Punjab

Spectacular Sainchi featuring the scenes from rural life

The use of stripes in the motifs is unusual and creates a vibrant contrasting aesthetic.

At the centre we see the large circle. One of the interpretations is that this represents the  wheel of life.

Around this central medallion we see hens two types of birds alternating - one with a crown and one without, one with two colors and one with only one color on the body.

We see a variety of large birds and animals.

And we see three houses, two of which have a woman and a child each and the third has a man. Note the presence of the veil on the women.

Finally, we see the fabulously detailed depictions of bridal jewelry, ornaments and grooming accessories all over.

Condition is generally good but these is some thread loss & some color issues.

Given the age of the textile artwork, deficiencies in the form of thread loss, stains, repairs etc are inevitable.

Age unknown but it estimated to be 80-90 years old

Punjab, Undivided India.

Please see the video uploaded after all the photos.
