1473 SOLD Antique Moon Shawl

Antique Kashmir Pashmina Chandar Moon Shawl

Amazing off-white pashmina wool, composed of four sections joined together, woven
with blue teal leaf boteh, the moons outlined with red tipped flowers, the central
moon hexagonal

The moon shawl (chandar) first appeared in Kashmir in 1680 and is
characterised by its spacious, square field, central moon-like medallion,
with further quarter medallions in each corner.

With simple weaving but unusual configuration. The shawl has been
quartered and sewn up. The lateral borders are later.

Lined with later wool backing. With old darns and stains. Velcro mounts on the reverse for a stretcher.
