1497 Large Antique Sadeli Anglo Indian Bombay Box with Micro Mosaic

A large veneered box with Sadeli micromosaic, with fitted interior and compartments from the mid 1800s

Large panels of mosaic cover the top and the sides of the box.

Impeccably matched corners and edges.

17in long, 11in wide, 6in high. Very heavy.

Bone, some stained green, mosaic bits with metal that is most probably silver.

Sandal wood & possibly ebony or rosewood. Silver & brass escutcheons. Velvet lining.

The shelf at the bottom has a velvet covered slope meant to be used as a writing slope. This can be released by removing the metal pin that goes through the front vertical plane and secures the slope tray in place when closed.

Many small compartments.

The top has become unhinged and has separated from the box.

Has losses and damage and needs repairs. Price takes the deficiencies into account.

Easy to repurpose into at least the following: one mirror frame and a set of 3 framed artworks - much more re-purposing possible with a little skill & creativity.

Acquired from a notable UK auction house
