130 SOLD Old Banarasi Sari with Precious metal in Zari

Sold to a discerning Antique Art-Lover

***

Two toned Silk sari from Banaras meant for a bride's trousseau.

The Zari has some precious metal content.

The Pallo is blanketted with woven Zari brocade that contains precious metal.

It is an ancestral heirloom piece known to be at least 5 generations old.

This sari is heavy. This piece was acquired from my jeweler.

The weight of the zari has put strain on the zari over the years so the condition is fragile.

Several tears and splits seen in the main silk body and the border.

But it is still great for framing and for wall display.

Pre-1900.

The Chand Sitara Motif of another similar Banarasi forms the cover of the famous book "Fabric Art' by Sukla das.

SIZE : Approx 520cm x 122cm

MY NOTE:í«í_ In the decade of buying old textiles and in the lifetime of buying and living amidst silk saris, I can testify that I have yet to see another sari with this level of brilliance and lustre in the Zari. It is pieces like these that cause grandmothers to lament that "they don't make them like they used to anymore". Fact.
