Dragons and Serpents from Laos – Textile Art
According to Lao mythology the Naga are the protectors of the Lao state and it is quite natural that they are found in all the forms of art practiced there.
Omipresent in architectural accents of the region, these have also made their way into the iconography of the textiles woven there.
What a lovely drawing of the powerful yet graceful mythical serpent-dragon-like creature.
As usual, it is this single cultural element that has opened the door to my exploration of a culture that I know nothing about! I can barely pinpoint the geographical location of the country today!
But this dragon will certainly drag me by the horns of curiosity and take me to that land – either virtually or physically!
There’s always more to Asian Art than meets the eye!
