How can a house that is so simple, serene and peaceful be the cause of the debilitating greed that arises in me when I view it?
Every house that I saw and show here, I want to own and live in! I want to populate these with my family, my children, my grandchildren and live through all of life’s events in all of these houses.
Sigh!
A walk through some of the lovely traditional houses of South India featuring houses from Sattanur (Thanjavur), Chettinad, Tirunelveli, and Chickmagalur.

Decorating various important spots in the home with Rangoli patterns after the morning bath, with special patterns for special festivals
To spend evenings in this outer verandah, chatting with the neighbours.

Watching the comings and goings of various family members from the inner parts of the house, without being seen
To use the inner courtyard as a private yet outdoor space, secluded from unwanted eyes. Pickle making, drying papads, oil bathing children would all happen here in the private patch of sunshine.!
The swing for adults – to sit and pass time thinking about important matters
To swing the toddlers and babies to sleep in the afternoon siesta
What an enchanted life!
