A Visit to Borobudur

January 17, 2011 1 min read

2008.

I wrote about it on another site. But the nature of the internet is such that things get lost easily. Nothing is as permanent as paper. But am sure the people who wrote on stone & copper plates thought that too when paper came along.

My thoughts at the time are lost. And now I can only reconstruct them based on memory. But they are not important.

The memories are. The photos offer a glimpse of those:

Built in the 9th century, then abandoned at some point and consumed completely by the jungle, this site was discovered in the early 1800s and is now one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The pictures do remind me of the serenity of the place as it was meant to be.

But, the reality was that I had gone on a long weekend as a result of a public holiday. And not just me, many other people had the same idea. The pictures taken above, with no crowds took some skill and some patience….the photos below were show the contrast between mindful clicking and just-point-and-shoot!
