Superbly Embroidered Chaaklas, Chaakdas or square decorative patches used as wall art in traditional Rabari homes

Cotton base - and most probably all-cotton threads.

Superbly executed extremely dense embroidery that at first-glance could be mistaken for applique or rope-work

Such fine work is no longer made.

Artworks of this quality were usually given as dowry.

Rabari Tribe

Kutch, India

Estimated to be from the 1970s

Each is about 2 feet x 2 feet in size

Note the minor variation in size and color between the two pieces - that is a charming evidence of the fact that these were made at home for self-use
