Sold to a discerning Antique Art-Lover

***

Outstanding Weaving from Biboki in the North East corner of West Timor

Two Ikat woven bands with superb Escher-like geometric patterns are seen - where it is impossible to distinguish between the figure and the ground.

The top and the lower edges of the textile have been decorated with exquisite motifs created with a supplementary weft that is characteristic of the weaving in this region.

Folded over and hand stitched to form a tube and worn at the level of the underarms.

Superb textile overall.

46 inches x 23 inches (folded over)
