Outstanding work of art

Excellent condition as it has been protected by a frame

This pair is from Iran which had been producing lacquer bindings of this format for the several centuries.

The art uses a technique in which some parts that need highlighting are raised - like in embossing.

The composition of a ruler seated under a canopy in a garden surrounded by attendant(s) is found in a number of Iranian examples such as one in the British Library (Stanley, op. cit., pl.7.10, p.195).

Good condition as it has been protected by the frame

Frame Size : 13"x18"

Estimated to be from the late 1800s - early 1900s
