Vintage hand fan with extinct mochi bharat embroidery.
Base cloth is silk - most probably mashru silk.
Motifs include dancing peacocks, standing peacocks, parrots and flowers.
The sticks are beautifully carved and painted.
Main Fan body has been handstitched.
Three layers of frills 1) red mashru cloth 2) green silk with embroidery (has damage / repairs) 3) orange mashru
Estimated to be from the 1930s-1950s
This item has spent a lifetime being used for the purpose of its creation with the original artist/user. Signs of this life lived heartily may be present on the piece in the form of stains, thread loss, loose threads, holes, tears, color run and other imperfections. Therefore the condition must be assumed to be “not” perfect. More photos of such imperfections will be provided on request.
