278 Museum Quality Antique South India Silver Amulet Box With Inscription

Amulet Locket with compartment & Inscription.

This large locket with a compartment was probably used to hold a religious object or some prayer.

It has an inscription on one of the faces and contains traces of 'roli' or red powder used in worship.

The underlying belief is that wearing such bespoke pieces would confer special powers on the wearer - such as strength or protection or a customised blessing of fertility or success in a particular quest.

A unique and rare find.
