Silk embroidery on cotton cloth. Follows the usual pattern of the concentric square composition but with a variant; an unusual, almost whimsical, and playful addition of an extra strip of mirrors in the center. Such asymmetry is rare and makes this piece unique. Handcrafted by anonymous women of Kutch in the westernmost part of India bordering the Thar desert. The silk threads are colored by natural dyes. Early 20th century (70-80 years old). Size - 32"x32".
