Every time I click images of vanishing tribes the motivating idea that drives me is that in a small way I am capturing history as it passes. There is a sense of inflated self-importance momentarily.
Today after getting exposed to Edward Curtis’s work, at the Mc Cord museum, Montreal, I realise how silly my ideas were and how insignificant my little body of work is.
This man is a Giant – and his life’s work is an epic story. A perfect role model.
He roamed the 21 first nations of North America in the early 1900s and photographed the vanishing aboriginal tribes over years. His work – photos and documentation was published as a work of 20 volumes!
A remarkable effort!!!
I finally have a role model to follow!!!
Will post more about him once I am back on a laptop.
