This is a rare / unusual Thirma phulkari with 5 colors (Pachranga)
Two factors are noteworthy - the unique diagnol pattern and the use of mutliple colors.
The glossy silk motifs have been rendered in maroon, magenta and very unusual light pink, rare green and even rarer dark-blue (I have not seen dark blue in any other phulkari until now).
Hand spun cotton threads (the slubs are visible in the closeups)
Handwoven white base cloth.
Age unknown but estimated to be 50-60 years old
Some minor losses to silk thread due to usage can be seen.
This item has spent a lifetime being used for the purpose of its creation with the original artist/user. Signs of this life lived heartily may be present on the piece in the form of stains, thread loss, loose threads, holes, tears, color run and other imperfections. Therefore the condition must be assumed to be “not” perfect. More photos of such imperfections will be provided on request.
