Set of 6 Sutra Folios from Mongolia with unique Musical Notation
This set of handwritten panels contains Buddhist sutras or chants.
Accompanying the text is a language of visual musical notation now believed to be extinct. Skillfully handwritten using a brush to create thick and thin strokes at different points in the script.
Tiny inscriptions on the edges written perpendicular to the main text may be the signature of the writer or a reference to the content.
